EM20 was recorded in Kingston, and features the prolific, Jamaican-Born, German-based, Dancehall MC, ‘Exile Di Brave’. Exile, no stranger to the Equiknoxx family, has performed with Time Cow, Gavsborg & Shanique Marie from Kingston to Lisbon and has been actively collaborating with different members of the group since 2015. ‘Run ‘Is the archetype of the Equiknoxx / Exile Di Brave relationship, which goes from creative instantaneousness and urgency to never releasing this song, to “let’s release this song tomorrow!”
The moment Gavsborg laid down the instrumental, Exile was already knocking on the studio door, bars off head top, freestyling the whole track in real-time. Exile sits on the instrumental like a succulent on a layered sand jar. The piece in total feels like some kind of a concoction of Big Youth & Busta Rhymes mixed in with Equiknoxx 2020 Style & Fashion.
The tunes are complemented by a music video filmed by Fabian Schmidt in August Town, (a stone’s throw from the resting place of Revivalism Preacher & Legendary Black Empowerment Teacher, Alexander Bedward). Gavsborg recollects being a designated watchman, along with Time Cow to alert the videographer if there was an incoming military patrol. The area was under social unrest at the time and street activities were forbidden in that quarter.
